Chris Meinig is the Director of the Engineering Development Division at NOAA PMEL. He leads a diversified team of engineers and technicians specializing in the research, development and deployment of ocean and atmospheric instruments and observing platforms. His work is global in scope and include moorings, ships, ROVs, underwater gliders and unmanned surface and aerial vehicles and has logged over 550 days at sea.
Chris received his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and has been with NOAA PMEL since 1994. He has been granted two U.S. patents and has four times been honored with Department of Commerce Gold Medals and Silver Medals for his engineering contributions to ocean observing systems. He has received two NOAA Technology Transfer Awards for transitioning government research to industry
