Search Interface Help Descriptions

Search fiscal or calendar years: Choose either a Fiscal Year (October 1–September 30) or Calendar Year (January 1–December 31).

Search between certain years or all years: Choose the year date range to search. Selecting All years overrides the individual year drop-downs and searches from 1968 to the current year.

Group results by year, ascending or descending: Group the results of a multi-year search by year. Results may be sorted by year, Ascending or Descending. Headings will appear above each year.

Search by published or in progress status: Narrow your search to return only those publications that are Published (default), In Progress, or Both. For in progress publications, you may also designate the status of the paper, including In Preparation, Submitted, Accepted, In Press, In Review, or In Revision. "In Progress" features are restricted to PMEL employees.

Search by division: Narrow your search to return only those publications by authors in a given PMEL division. Divisions are internal constructs and are probably only useful to PMEL employees.

Search by media: Narrow your search to return only those publications published in a given media. Types of media include Journals, Government Reports, Conference Proceedings, Trade Journals/Newsletters, Book Chapters, Books, and Data Sets. Selecting Government Reports in the "Media" drop-down menu will cause another drop-down menu labeled "NOAA Series" to appear, with choices to further refine your query to Tech Memos, Tech Reports, Data Reports, or Special Reports.

Quick lists: Clicking one of the quick links simply allows popular searches to be run without the necessity of further choices. "Current fiscal year" is exactly the same as selecting the "Submit" button without making any search choices.

Search by first author only: Return only those papers where the requested author is the first author of the paper.

Search by exact match on last name: Return only those papers where the requested author has the exact last name entered. Example: A search for the last name Lau will exclude the name Laurila.

Search by author last name or initials: Narrow your search to return only those publications (co)authored by a certain author. Initials should be typed with no spaces. Example: A.B. Any two authors may be searched, and the result will display titles where both names appear as authors, no matter how many other authors there may be.

Search by title: Narrow your search to return only those publications containing specific words in its title. The radio buttons to the right of the field have "all" as the default selection, meaning that all words in the field must occur in the title to be found. Select the "any" radio button to find a title that contains any of the words requested, or select the "phrase" radio button to find a title that contains the words as a phrase, e.g., all the words in the exact order requested.

Search by citation: Narrow your search to return only those publications containing specific words in its citation. The radio buttons to the right of the field have "all" as the default selection, meaning that all words in the field must occur in the citation to be found. Select the "any" radio button to find a citation that contains any of the words requested, or select the "phras" radio button to find a citation that contains the words as a phrase, e.g., all the words in the exact order requested.

Search by abstract content: Narrow your search to return only those publications containing specific words in its abstract. The radio buttons to the right of the field have "all" as the default selection, meaning that all words in the field must occur in the abstract to be found. Select the "any" radio button to find an abstract that contains any of the words requested, or select the "phrase" radio button to find an abstract that contains the words as a phrase, e.g., all the words in the exact order requested.

Search by contribution number: If a value is given for contribution number, all other search criteria are ignored and the citation for the requested number is returned. You may also type a string of contribution numbers in the field, separated by commas, to produce a list of titles with those contribution numbers, in the order you typed the numbers.
