This study aims to find out long-term effects of social responses in the 1994 Mindoro tsunami disaster in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. In the results, we found that the resettlement policy toward residents by the government in largely damaged areas has been successful so far. Rebuilding houses, “Food for Work” programs and improvement of infrastructure in the relocation sites were effective in the long-term success of the resettlement policy. In order to continue this success in the future, early issue of land ownership certificates for the residents who have never received them, and continuance of disaster education in the local high schools including students’ families will be essential.
