Dr. Chidong Zhang

Dr. Chidong Zhang joined PMEL as the Ocean Climate Research Division leader in 2016. He comes from the University of Miami where he was a professor at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. His expertise is in large-scale air-sea interaction and atmospheric dynamics in the tropics. His special research interests include the subseasonal variability (the Madden-Julian Oscillation), its interaction with El Nino, and African and American monsoons. He is an active member in the American Geophysical Union and a Fellow of the American Meteorology Society. He also serves as a co-chair of the Science Steering Committee of the international program Years of the Maritime Continent (YMC) and is an editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres
