Climate-Weather Interface

Dr. Chidong Zhang is an oceanographer in the PMEL Ocean Climate Research Division. His expertise is in large-scale air-sea interaction, atmospheric dynamics in the tropics, especially for the subseasonal variability (the Madden-Julian Oscillation), and observations using uncrewed systems under extreme conditions (e.g., hurricanes and the Arctic). His current research projects include observations of the air-sea transition zone using novel observing technologies, predictability of the MJO, and the Tropical Equatorial Pacific Experiment in the central Pacific (TEPEX-C), planned for spring 2028.
