PMEL Carbon Group Awarded Seattle Outstanding Federal Employee Award

PMEL carbon scientists Chris Sabine, Stacy Maenner (photo), and Cathy Cosca were honored as outstanding Federal Employees for 2010 in Seattle on May 5, 2010 as part of the Seattle Federal Executive Board’s Celebration of Public Service.

The PMEL team worked with the Pacific Science Center to install a carbon dioxide (CO2) sensor on the Seattle Space Needle and developed an exhibit that displays the data to educate the public about ocean acidification. The data from the Space Needle are compared to CO2 data from a buoy off the Washington coast to show the impact that Seattle’s carbon emissions have on the Sound and provide long term CO2 records for Seattle.
