Research Interests

I am interested in the ocean's role in the carbon cycle and climate with a focus on the Southern Ocean around Antarctica and the Tropical Pacific Ocean. For my research, I use new biogeochemical Argo floats that carry new sensors to measure nutrients, carbon, oxygen, and proxies for biomass like chlorophyll and backscatter. These floats can measure water properties every 10 days between the surface and 2000 m depth and can even continue to collect data under ice. These data, combined with high-quality shipboard surveys for sensor validation, are revolutionizing the way we study ocean biogeochemical processes and I am hopeful that we will see their expansion from regional arrays to a global array.
