Hi,
Yes, Ferret writes double precision data.
https://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/documentation/users-guide/data-set-basics/BINARY-DATA
says,
Since Ferret represents all variables as REAL*8, it will
read all data int 8-byte words. On writing data using the
LIST/FORMAT=stream command, it writes data in 8-byte words.
As a side note, NetCDF is really
Ferret's native file type. When writing NetCDF, one can specify
the output data type when writing out data, with the /OUTTYPE
qualifier (/OUTTYPE is not a valid option for writing STREAM
data).

Dear
Ferret users,
I
tried to list data from a NetCDF file to a binary
file using the following command:
list/file="HadCRUT.4.6.anm.100.dat"/format=stream/i=1:72/j=1:36/L=1/clobber
temperature_anomaly
I
suspect that the data were not saved correctly,
since the size of the
data file is 20736 rather than 10368.
Is ferret writing double
precision data?
