pdf has one excellent advantage over powerpoint:
You can show plots in portrait orientation, which
powerpoint cannot do without shrinking the plots
excessively.

Also, pdf does not tempt you to fill up your usable 
space with excess borders and titles, which most 
powerpoint users are unable to resist. Just the facts,
ma'am, just the facts.
