Cruise Overview
The Overview is a preparatory document from the Chief Scientists to
the vessel. It is submitted to the Field Operations Leaders and the FOCI
Liaison Officer in December for spring cruises and in May for summer and
fall cruises. If draft Cruise Instructions have already been submitted,
then the Overview is not required. The Overview is a few pages that briefly
address the following:
-
Cruise objectives and operations
-
Loading the ship
-
Transferring equipment between cruises
-
Coordinating with other cruises
-
Equipment needs
-
Lab space
-
Storage space
-
Special requirements
Include draft itinerary, area of operations, type of operations, special
equipment requirements. This information is presented to the ship and publicly
discussed at the Pre-Season briefing meeting (MILLER FREEMAN.)
