FOCI
began in 1984 as a collaboration between the Alaska Fisheries Science Center
and Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, two NOAA research centers
in Seattle, Washington.
FOCI expanded spatially by adding
a Bering Sea component in 1991, and by working with with other programs
such as NOAA Coastal Ocean Program, US GLOBEC, NSF, Arctic Research Initiative,
and recently the North Pacific Marine Research Program.
