Oregon State University
College of Oceanic & Atmospheric Sciences
FILING DATE: 16 April 1999
CRUISE NUMBER: W9905B
TITLE: FOCI Shelikof Strait Time Series -- Line 8
CONTRACT/GRANT NUMBER:
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR:
Dr. Jeffrey Napp
NOAA/Alaska Fisheries Science Center
PURPOSE:
Collection of biological and physical samples at 6 stations along FOCIs cardinal sampling line in Shelikof Strait, Alaska. The line has been sampled in the spring, each year, since 1985.
ITINERARY:
Scientists will arrive in Larson Bay on the 6th of May and spend the night. Please be prepared for a 0800 hrs (ADT) rendezvous with the scientists at the cannery dock on the 7th of May. Departure should occur soon after the launch returns to the ship with the scientists. After completion of sampling the ship will steam to USCG pier (Womens Bay) in Kodiak for morning arrival (1000 hrs.) on 9 May 1999.
WILL RADIOACTIVE METHODS BE USED? No
SAMPLING PLAN:
At each station we will do up to (2) CTD casts and (1) bongo tow, all to within 10 m of the bottom. Samples for nutrients, chlorophyll, and microzooplankton will be drawn from 10 l Niskin bottles on the CTD rosette. Twelve bottles are needed. Net tows consisting of 20 and 60 cm bongo frames towed simultaneously will be accomplished using the trawl winch with 0.322" conducting wire. The protocol for bongo net tows is attached (Appendix A). A SeaCat is placed on the wire above the bongo frames and is connected to the conductors for real-time data telemetry of the instruments depth.
