Field Season Updates and Schedule Changes for FY01

• Change in CTD Responsibility:  PMEL shall provide the primary CTD system aboard NOAA Ships.  The NOAA Ships will provide a secondary CTD system in the event that the primary systems fails.

• FY 2001 Field Operations Schedule (Rough Draft) posted to http://hilo.pmel.noaa.gov/foci/operations/instructions/fieldops01.html

• additional sea days added to Fall 2000 Ron Brown schedule for FOCI

• Ron Brown suffered hull damage on her trip north through  the Inside Passage.  She returned to dry dock in Seattle for repairs.  All FOCI spring cruises were canceled.

• Applicable Standard Operating Instructions for the Ron Brown were developed from those for the Miller Freeman.

• Specific and standard operating templates for the Miller Freeman are modified for the 2000 field season.  SCS SENSOR.DAT information is not yet updated.

• Because of extensive sea ice in the Bering, the Miller Freeman will not depart Seattle until 7 February.  The first leg will have three parts:  MF00-01A, B, and C.  On leg A (transit), age-1 pollock will be sampled from the Shelikof Strait region and possible part of the Unimak CTD grid will be occupied.  On leg B, part of the Unimak grid will be occupied for CTDs and arrowtooth flounder trawls.  Leg C is the mooring cruise.

• Added MF98-01 Final, MF98-05A Cruise Overview, MF98-05B Draft, and MF98-06 and 08 Cruise Overviews to the FOCI 1998 Field Season page.

• Chief Scientist Check List updated in table format, and Hazardous Materials Check List integrated into the main Chief Scientist Check List.
• Hazardous Materials Check List for Participating Scientists added to Participating Scientists Information page.

• FOCI Field Season Planning Calendar for UNOLS R/V WECOMA added to Table of Contents page.
• Chief Scientist Information page updated.
• Cruise Planning Documents page updated in table format.

• Cruise Preparation Table of Contents referenced from Operations Page.
• Linked cruise instructions for MF98-01(Draft) added to FY98 Field Season.

• Hazardous Materials Plan referenced from Operations Page. It is still available from Chief Scientist and Participating Scientist guides.

• Cruise planning guide updated, please send comments to FOCI Coordinator.

• Chief Scientist has been changed on the MF97-05 Leg 2 cruise to examine spring bloom conditions in the southeastern Bering Sea.
• The on-line guide for cruise participation has been reviewed and is being updated. The target completion date is March 7.

• The SCS Sensor Specification for 1997 has been included as an appendix to the Standard Operating Instructions.
• Operations during the WECOMA cruise WE97-02 will be mooring deployment/recovery and testing of a Multiple Plankton Sampler.

• The 1997 Cruise Instruction template that complements Standard Operating Instructions is now installed as an RTF file for retrieval from the Templates page.

• The schedule for the FY97 field season has been modified.
• Standing Orders for the Miller Freeman are available on the FOCI Operations Page in RTF format.
• Cruise Instructions for MF97-01 are available in RTF format from the FOCI Operations Page and from the cruise schedule.

• The schedule for the FY97 field season is available at:

• The field season schedule is being developed and should be availabe on the WWW on or about November 1st.

• The first SEBSCC PI meeting is scheduled for October 15, 1996 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
