Ron Brown suffered hull damage on her trip north through the Inside
Passage. She returned to dry dock in Seattle for repairs. All
FOCI spring cruises were canceled.

Applicable Standard Operating Instructions for the Ron Brown were developed
from those for the Miller Freeman.

Specific and standard operating templates for the Miller Freeman are modified
for the 2000 field season. SCS SENSOR.DAT information is not yet
updated.

Because of extensive sea ice in the Bering, the Miller Freeman will not
depart Seattle until 7 February. The first leg will have three parts:
MF00-01A, B, and C. On leg A (transit), age-1 pollock will be sampled
from the Shelikof Strait region and possible part of the Unimak CTD grid
will be occupied. On leg B, part of the Unimak grid will be occupied
for CTDs and arrowtooth flounder trawls. Leg C is the mooring cruise.

spring bloom conditions in the southeastern Bering Sea.

The on-line guide for cruise participation has been reviewed and is being
updated. The target completion date is March 7.

The SCS Sensor Specification for 1997 has been included as an appendix
to the Standard Operating Instructions.

Operations during the WECOMA cruise WE97-02 will be mooring deployment/recovery
and testing of a Multiple Plankton Sampler.

The 1997 Cruise Instruction template that complements Standard Operating
Instructions is now installed as an RTF file for retrieval from the Templates
page.

PI meeting is scheduled for October 15, 1996 in Nanaimo, British Columbia,
Canada.
